Quality Assurance

Product quality is a critical success factor in the market segments that we serve.  Burtek strives to encourage every employee to continually improve its processes and has adopted a number of quality improvement and measurement techniques to monitor its performance.  The Company utilizes the VISUAL System for Material Requirements Planning (“MRP-II”) to plan, control and execute product fabrication and assembly.  This system manages receipt and accounting of all incoming raw material and purchased parts; custody and care of customer furnished materials and equipment; coordination and management of sub-contract work; coordination and management of inventory across the floor; overall product delivery scheduling; and final inspection, packaging and shipping.  Employing VISUAL allows Burtek to follow finite protocol MRP-II methodology and to track parts and operators with bar codes. Burtek tracks each component, traveler, and operator in the plant, and integrates all tracking data into VISUAL.  This allows Burtek’s plant and program managers to track the status, schedule and cost of every project and perform real time analysis and planning.

Burtek combines advanced manufacturing technology, such as CAD / Computer Aided Manufacturing (“CAM”), with lean manufacturing techniques such as just-in-time (“J-I-T”) manufacturing and “Operational Excellence” to ensure manufacturing excellence.  J-I-T manufacturing is a production technique that minimizes work-in-process inventory and manufacturing cycle time while enabling delivery of products to customers in the quantities and time frame required.  “Operational Excellence” is a management philosophy that seeks to impart high levels of quality in every operation.  “Operational Excellence” is accomplished by setting quality objectives for every operation, tracking and measuring performance against those objectives, identifying work flow and policy changes required to achieve higher quality levels, and committing senior management support for changes required to deliver higher quality.

Burtek operates its facilities under a single integrated quality system and in compliance with the ISO 9001 quality management standard that specifies quality system requirements for product design, sourcing and production.  Burtek’s facilities are certified to the ISO 9001 standard by independent certification organization through May 2013.
